Summary

A young solicitor travels alone into the Carpathians to close a property deal with a foreign count — and every local who hears where he's headed begs him to turn back. By the time he reaches the castle, the coach's driver has vanished into a ring of wolves and reappeared without a word of explanation, and his host casts no shadow at all.
